Meet the Team Behind Out & About
Welcome! We’re Chanelle, Sophie, and Jenn, and this is the first post on Out & About!
This blog started through a shared realization that even after living in Kingston for the last few years, we still barely know where to go on a night out. Of course there’s everyone's go-to spots for nights when we want to go to the club, but what about if we just want to grab drinks with a friend, or eat a really nice dinner? We realized what was missing was a central hub of information where we could scroll and find places that fit with our mood and what we were looking for. And that’s why we created: out&about. We hope it’ll help you on those days when you’re asking your friends, “so…what are we doing tonight?”
That said, who are we? And why should you care about our recommendations? Here’s a little intro on us!
Chanelle — I’m originally from Ottawa, and I’m the first to admit that it is quite a boring place to grow up in. Honestly though, just like with every city, you have to take the time to find the hidden gems, and unfortunately, even after being in Kingston for the last three years, I’ve yet to find my absolute favorite place. For me, a perfect night out would be enjoying dinner with my friends, getting a few cocktails, and ending it off with a collection of digital camera pics. Which is why we’re all on a mission to find the best of the best! Stay tuned for how we’ll incorporate your voices into this journey too :)
Sophie — Coming from San Francisco, I'd say my standards are high for what I look for in a good night out. I wouldn’t say I'm a huge club girl, but I can partake in some dancing every so often. My ideal night out includes: friends, a good drink, and good music. Seems simple, right? You’d be surprised how difficult it is to satisfy the criteria on any night of the week. That’s why I’m passionate about out&about! Finding your motive for the night shouldn’t be hard, and that’s where we come in. Plus, who likes waiting in lines anyway? We’ll be going over our favorite restaurants, bars, and everything in between. Stay tuned to find your new favorite place for any night of the week.
Jenn — If you know me, you know I love a good night out. Ask me to go for dollar beers and nine times out of ten I’ll say “what time and location? I’ll be there.” Funny enough, a few years ago I was the total opposite. I grew up in a home where going out wasn’t really a thing… That you couldn’t have fun and still do well in school. Spoiler: you totally can. Coming to Queen’s made me realize that a night out doesn’t have to mean chaos - it can mean amazing drinks, even better friends, and finding new spots that make Kingston feel a little more exciting every time. If you are like me, I’m so excited that you found our blog — get ready, because your life is about to change!!! Welcome to Out and about.
